The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is responsible for conducting the J&K Teacher Eligibility Test (JKTET) to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching posts in Classes 1 to 8 in schools across J&K. As per the official schedule, the JKTET Exam will be conducted in August 2026, and qualified candidates in the exam will get the JKTET certificate, which is valid for a lifetime. The Jammu & Kashmir Teacher Eligibility Test (JKTET) is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates aspiring to become teachers in government and private schools of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

As per Government Order No. 87-JK (Edu) of 2026, JKBOSE / State School Standards Authority (SSSA) has been designated as the Nodal Agency for conducting TET in J&K, in compliance with the judgment dated 01.09.2025 of the Supreme Court of India.

The Application Forms for JKTET 2026 are expected in March, 2026. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official website for latest updates.

JKTET Educational Qualification

Level I – Primary Teacher (Class 1 to 5)

Candidate must have:

  • Senior Secondary (50% marks) + 2-Year D.El.Ed
    • OR
  • Senior Secondary (50% marks) + 4-Year B.El.Ed
    • OR
  • Senior Secondary (50% marks) + 2-Year Diploma in Special Education
    • OR
  • Graduation from a Recognised University

Level II – Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6 to 8)

Candidate must have:

  • Graduation (50% marks) + 2-Year D.El.Ed
    • OR
  • Graduation (50% marks) + 1-Year B.Ed
    • OR
  • Senior Secondary (50% marks) + 4-Year B.El.Ed / B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed
    • OR
  • Graduation (50%) + 1-Year B.Ed (Special Education)
    • OR
  • Graduation from a Recognised University

Special Eligibility as per Supreme Court Directions (For In-Service Teachers)

As per the judgment in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025:

1️⃣ Teachers With More Than 5 Years of Service Left

  • Must qualify TET within 2 years.
  • Failure will result in compulsory retirement.

2️⃣ Teachers With Less Than 5 Years of Service Left

  • Exempted from TET for continuation.
  • TET mandatory if seeking promotion.

3️⃣ For Promotion

  • TET qualification is compulsory.

4️⃣ Applicability

  • Mandatory for Government Schools.
  • Mandatory for Private Registered Schools.
  • Minority Institutions temporarily exempted.

JKTET 2026 Exam Pattern

The Jammu & Kashmir Teacher Eligibility Test (JKTET) is conducted in offline mode, the exam consists of two papers – Paper I (for Classes 1 to 5) and Paper II (for Classes 6 to 8).

Each paper contains 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying 1 mark each.
