JKSSB Wild Life Guard 2026 – Subject-Wise Preparation Tips

Basic Mathematics (20 Marks)

  • Percentage and Ratio: These are the most frequently asked topics in any competitive exam. Practice at least 50 questions from each topic.
  • Time, Work and Distance: Focus on shortcut formulas and practice speed-based problems. This topic usually has 3–4 questions.
  • Mensuration: Revise formulas for area, perimeter, and volume of basic 2D and 3D shapes.
  • LCM and HCF: Learn the prime factorisation method for quick calculation.
  • Since this section is only 20 marks, aim to solve it in under 20 minutes to save time for the GK section.

Basic Reasoning (20 Marks)

  • Number Series and Coding/Decoding: These are the most scoring topics in reasoning. Practice different patterns daily.
  • Figure-based questions (Odd One Out, Figure Series, Venn Diagram) require visual practice — use diagram-based workbooks.
  • Analogies and Relationships: Build vocabulary and relationship concepts through daily practice sets.
  • Aim to complete the reasoning section in 15–20 minutes as most questions are direct.

Basic English (30 Marks)

  • Synonyms and Antonyms: Learn at least 10–15 new words daily. Use a word list from standard vocabulary books.
  • Grammar topics (Articles, Prepositions, Verbs, Determiners): Revise basic grammar rules and practice fill-in-the-blank exercises.
  • Reading Comprehension: Practice at least one passage daily to improve speed and accuracy. Focus on inference-based questions.
  • Spellings: Maintain a list of commonly misspelled words and revise regularly.
  • English carries 30 marks — a well-prepared candidate can score full or near-full marks in this section.

General Awareness and Science (45 Marks) – Most Important

  • J&K Specific Topics (History, Geography, Culture): Study J&K’s geography (rivers, lakes, mountains, districts), historical events, dynasties, and cultural traditions thoroughly using J&K-specific study materials.
  • General Science: Focus on 10th standard Physics, Chemistry, and Biology concepts — basic laws, human body, environment, and health topics.
  • Current Affairs: Cover at least the last 6 months of national-level current events — government schemes, sports achievements, awards, and summits.
  • Indian History and Geography: Cover NCERT Class 6–10 History and Geography for a strong foundation.
  • Forest & Wildlife (20 Marks – New Section): This is a dedicated section unique to this post. Study Project Tiger, types of forests in India, biodiversity concepts, endangered species (IUCN Red List), wildlife conservation laws, and the impact of deforestation. Refer to NCERT Class 10 Chapter “Forest and Wildlife Resources” as a starting point.
  • Devote at least 50% of your study time to this section as it carries 45 out of 120 marks.
Overall Exam Strategy: Total exam time is 120 minutes for 120 marks — approximately 1 minute per mark. Attempt GK & Science first (45 marks — highest weightage), then English (25 marks), followed by Mathematics and Reasoning (25 marks each). Within GK, tackle Forest & Wildlife questions first as these are specific and fact-based. Do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single question.
