Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission Prosecuting Officer Exam Pattern 2026 – Scheme of Examination.
The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) conducts the Prosecuting Officer Examination in three stages:
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Personality Test (Interview)
Complete scheme of examination is given below as per official notification.
Part A – Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination shall consist of two papers of 200 marks each.
Important Points
- Both question papers will be set in English.
- Each paper will be of 2 hours duration.
- Each paper will consist of 100 Objective Type (Multiple Choice) Questions.
- The syllabus of Paper I will be of Degree Level.
- Paper II will be a Qualifying Paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
- It is mandatory for candidates to appear in both papers.
- A candidate will be disqualified if he/she does not appear in both papers.

Part B – Main Examination
The Main Examination consists of one qualifying paper and seven merit papers.

Important Notes for Main Examination
- All question papers will be set in English.
- Papers will be of conventional (Essay) type.
- Each paper will be of 3 hours duration.
- Papers I and VII shall consist of 2 Sections.
- Each section will contain 4 questions carrying 50 marks each.
- Candidates must attempt 5 questions, with at least 2 questions from each section.
- Evaluation of all papers will be done simultaneously.
- Only those candidates who secure 33% marks in English (Qualifying Paper) will have their merit papers evaluated.
- Marks of Papers I to VII will be counted for final merit ranking.
- Commission may fix qualifying marks in any or all merit papers.
Part C – Personality Test (Interview)

Interview Details
- Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of Members of the Commission.

- Legal aptitude

- Application of legal principles
- The interview aims to assess:
- Mental alertness
- Critical powers of assimilation
- Logical exposition
- Balance of judgment
- Intellectual and moral integrity
- Social traits and depth of interest
Final Merit Calculation
- Marks counted for merit:
- Main Examination Papers I to VII (1750 Marks)
- Personality Test (200 Marks)
- English paper is qualifying only.
- Preliminary Examination is qualifying in nature for entry to Main Examination.
