India Post has released Notification No. 17-37/2025-GDS (Pt.I) dated 28 January 2026 for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-I, January 2026.
Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for engagement to the posts of:
- Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Dak Sevak

Only one registration per candidate is allowed. Multiple or duplicate registrations will lead to cancellation of candidature.
India Post GDS Vacancy 2026
Vacancies are available across different Circles and Divisions of the Department of Posts. The detailed Circle-wise vacancy list is provided in Annexure-I of the official notification.
Candidates can apply for one or more posts in only one selected Division and must give post preferences carefully.
GDS 2026 Service Conditions
- GDS are not regular Central Government employees.
- Their service conditions are governed by GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
- Working hours: Minimum 4 hours and maximum 5 hours per day.
- Maximum age for service retention: 65 years.
- BPM candidates must arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost.
- Selected candidates must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned post office.
GDS Job Profile
Branch Postmaster (BPM)
- Manage day-to-day operations of Branch Post Office and IPPB
- Marketing and promotion of postal products
- Overall responsibility of office functioning
- Must arrange accommodation and reside in post village
Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
- Sale of stamps and stationery
- Mail delivery and exchange
- Assist BPM in postal operations
- May perform BPM duties in absence of BPM
Dak Sevak
- Mail delivery and handling
- Work in Sub Post Offices, Head Post Offices and RMS
- Assist Postmasters in smooth functioning
GDS Salary 2026 (TRCA Slabs)
GDS are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) with annual 3% increment.

Age Limit (As on Last Date)
- Minimum Age: 18 Years
- Maximum Age: 40 Years
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST: 5 Years
- OBC: 3 Years
- PwBD: 10 Years
- PwBD + OBC: 13 Years
- PwBD + SC/ST: 15 Years
Educational Qualification
- 10th Pass (Secondary School Examination) with passing marks in Mathematics and English
- Must have studied local language up to 10th standard
- Qualification must be from a recognized board
Application Fee
- General / OBC / EWS: ₹100
- Female / SC / ST / PwBD / Transwomen: Exempted
Fee must be paid online through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI. Fee once paid will not be refunded.
India Post GDS Selection Process
Selection will be based on marks obtained in 10th standard (SSE) as per the rules mentioned in the notification.
No written examination will be conducted.
Shortlisted candidates will receive communication through registered email and mobile number.
Photo & Signature Upload Guidelines
Photograph Requirements:
- Format: JPG/JPEG
- Size: 30 KB to 100 KB
- Dimensions: 320 × 400 pixels (4:5 ratio)
- Plain white or light background
- Face should occupy 70–80% of image
- No selfies or scanned photos
Signature must be uploaded as per the prescribed format mentioned in the notification.
Important Instructions
- Only one registration allowed per candidate.
- Mobile number and email ID cannot be changed after registration.
- Name and Date of Birth must match exactly with 10th certificate.
- Applications with incomplete fee payment will be rejected.
- Candidates must carefully choose Division and post preferences.
