JKTET 2026 / Jammu and Kashmir Teacher Eligibility Test 2026: The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has designated the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education / State School Standards Authority (SSSA) as the Nodal Agency for conducting the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in the Union Territory.

The decision has been taken in compliance with the judgment dated 01.09.2025 passed by the Supreme Court of India in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025 titled Anjuman Ishat-E-Taleem Trust Vs State of Maharashtra & Ors.

As per the Government Order No. 87-JK (Edu) of 2026 dated 23-02-2026, the TET qualification has been made mandatory in accordance with the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

The detailed application forms will be made available on the official website (https://jktet.in) within the stipulated time period by the concerned agency.

Below are the eligibility conditions for JK TET (JKETET) as derived from the Government Order and Supreme Court directions.

JK TET Eligibility Criteria 2026

1. For New Aspirants (Fresh Candidates)

  • All candidates aspiring for appointment as teachers in Government or Private Schools (Non-Minority Institutions) must qualify TET.
  • TET qualification is mandatory for consideration of candidature.
  • The syllabus shall be aligned with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) CTET syllabus with minor modifications as per J&K curriculum.

2. For In-Service Teachers (Non-Minority Institutions)

As per the Supreme Court directions:

A. Teachers Having More Than 5 Years of Service Left Before Retirement

  • Must qualify TET within 2 years from the date of the judgment.
  • Failure to qualify within the prescribed period shall result in compulsory retirement.
  • They will be entitled to terminal benefits as per rules (subject to qualifying service).

B. Teachers Having Less Than 5 Years of Service Left Before Retirement

  • Exempted from qualifying TET for continuation in service.
  • However, if such teachers seek promotion, TET qualification is mandatory.

3. For Promotion

  • All in-service teachers aspiring for promotion must qualify TET.
  • No teacher shall be considered eligible for promotion without TET qualification.

4. Applicability to Schools

  • TET is mandatory for:
    • Government Schools
    • Private Registered Schools
  • Minority institutions (religious or linguistic) are temporarily exempted until further decision by a Larger Bench of the Supreme Court.

5. Retrospective Applicability

  • TET requirement applies even to teachers appointed prior to enactment of the RTE Act.
  • Except for teachers with less than 5 years of service remaining (as per Supreme Court exemption).

Important Note

  • Mere continuation in service does not exempt eligible teachers from TET unless falling under the 5-year relaxation category.
  • The examination process is to be completed within 2 years as directed by the Supreme Court.
  • Detailed notification regarding application process, schedule, and syllabus will be issued separately by JKBOSE/SSSA.
