Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission Prosecuting Officer Exam Pattern 2026 – Scheme of Examination.

The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) conducts the Prosecuting Officer Examination in three stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Main Examination
  3. Personality Test (Interview)

Complete scheme of examination is given below as per official notification.

Part A – Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination shall consist of two papers of 200 marks each.

Important Points

  • Both question papers will be set in English.
  • Each paper will be of 2 hours duration.
  • Each paper will consist of 100 Objective Type (Multiple Choice) Questions.
  • The syllabus of Paper I will be of Degree Level.
  • Paper II will be a Qualifying Paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
  • It is mandatory for candidates to appear in both papers.
  • A candidate will be disqualified if he/she does not appear in both papers.

Part B – Main Examination

The Main Examination consists of one qualifying paper and seven merit papers.

  • Total Marks of Main Examination: 1750 Marks

Important Notes for Main Examination

  • All question papers will be set in English.
  • Papers will be of conventional (Essay) type.
  • Each paper will be of 3 hours duration.
  • Papers I and VII shall consist of 2 Sections.
  • Each section will contain 4 questions carrying 50 marks each.
  • Candidates must attempt 5 questions, with at least 2 questions from each section.
  • Evaluation of all papers will be done simultaneously.
  • Only those candidates who secure 33% marks in English (Qualifying Paper) will have their merit papers evaluated.
  • Marks of Papers I to VII will be counted for final merit ranking.
  • Commission may fix qualifying marks in any or all merit papers.

Interview Details

  • Candidates will be interviewed by a panel of Members of the Commission.
  • Questions will be asked on:
    • Matters of general interest
    • Legal aptitude
    • Current affairs
    • Application of legal principles
  • The interview aims to assess:
    • Mental alertness
    • Critical powers of assimilation
    • Logical exposition
    • Balance of judgment
    • Intellectual and moral integrity
    • Social traits and depth of interest

Final Merit Calculation

  • Marks counted for merit:
    • Main Examination Papers I to VII (1750 Marks)
    • Personality Test (200 Marks)
  • English paper is qualifying only.
  • Preliminary Examination is qualifying in nature for entry to Main Examination.
